Coffee shop sketches
When I said yesterday I have nothing to post, I lied. I forgot I had these four sketches, which I did in February, just after France became a smokefree public area country. We are almost 5 months down the road(why does it feel like more?) and it is still going well and the law is pretty much respected by all. Only nick now is that all the smokers stand right outside the entrance and you thus enter through this haze of smoke, holding your breath, closing your eyes and keeping your hand out in front in good hope you’ll somewhere hit the entrance! Ohh, I’m joking, it’s not reallyh that bad…I’m just happy for having a smokefree interior! Which allowed me in February to enjoy coffee at lenght’s desire in my three favourite coffee spots at the time…it’s changed by now, since I can’t stick to one thing for too long.

FUN sketches, Ronell!!! We too have many buildings smoke free — and ran into the same problem around the entries — so now the ‘no smoking’ signs are posted 25 FEET from the entrances!!! LOL

My home state just went smoke free last January and I too am SOOO happy. And if it means you get to have more time to sketch in coffee houses, Long Live France! (and the new smoking ban;-)

Oooh- that last image of the deux hommes is brilliant. I love these sorts of sketches–and I enjoyed reading your notes as well. You say at the top of your blog that you hope we’ll find something we like, and if not, maybe next time…I ALWAYS find something I like here!

Beautiful sketches Ronell. I’m one of those by the door I’m afraid but not to worry, I’m short so unless you can inhale through your knee caps you’re safe! LOL!

Those tiny touches of blue are perfect – I love them.
You may know it’s the same in England, regarding smoking now. I used to be a smoker, but I find it pretty obnoxious – at least, as you say, the interiors are smoke free.

Ah, les deux hommes, so loose, yet so full of expression.
I haven’t been back in France since the smoke ban, and i bet it feels like another world. I can’t imagine.

(Banning cigarettes in public places is one of the more inspired public policiies IMO.)
I love the touch of turquoise (?) blue in these paintings, Ronell.

These are wonderful. The ink and wash is so effective and evocative. I especially like the one of the bar.
